This is a Fossil of Giant White Shark Tooth aka, Carcharocles Megalodon. This fossil dates to the Miocene Period and was found in South Carolina. This piece measures approx. 2.4 inches, weight is approx. 31 grams. (Note measurement is done from root tip (both left and right side) to the point or end of tooth. The longest being the noted length. )
Megalodon Shark’s are believed to be the largest known fish. It is thought their bite force was between 24,000 and 40,000 pounds. They went extinct about 2.6 million years ago. It is thought they grow as big as 60 feet in length (with some possibility even larger). Their teeth have been found worldwide and they were the apex predator at in their time.
