We have three Bear Carvings each carved in a different material. One is Moonstone, Larvakite and the other is Obsidian. Approximate dimensions are 4" tall and 2" wide and weigh 282 grams

 

Moonstone there are two kinds of Moonstone one is Orthoclase and the other is Rainbow Moonstone (these are the most common types of moonstones). Rainbow moonstone usually has a blue color flash. Moonstone is a white feldspar so related to Labradorite. Other names are black moonstone, white labradorite. Mohs is 6-6.5 and found in India, Madagascar, US, Sri Lanka.

 

Larvikite is sometimes confused with black moonstone but appear or looks more like labradorite. The feldspar flash silver. Named by Professor Breogger in 1890. Discovered in Larvik Norway. Has a Mohs of 6-6.5, color is black and metallic found in Norway, Canada and UK.

 

Obsidian is nature’s volcanic glass and is formed after eruptions. Obsidian has been used by many cultures over many years as jewelry, weapons, ritual items. It is found in Mexico and the US. There are several varieties of Obsidian. and it has a Moh of 5-6.
